ABOUT US

Fife Employment Access Trust (FEAT) was set up in 1994 by a small group of people concerned about the lack of employment opportunities for people in Fife who had experience of mental health problems.  Some of this group had personal experience of mental ill health - and were all too aware about the problems of finding a job and the stigma that prevailed.  Today, we have over 16 years of experience of directly supporting people with mental health problems to find and sustain work.

Our "Journey to Work" programme offers individuals specialist and tailored support back into work.  The service is open to anyone who is currently unemployed, has experienced a mental health problem and feels ready to consider returning to work.  This could be a short-term aim but equally we work with those who see returning to work as a much longer-term goal.

In tandem with this service, we also work closely with employers to raise awareness of mental health in the workplace.

We offer organisations free information and exhibition displays, as well as a wide range of training courses on all aspects of mental health, which can be tailored to suit the needs of any particular organisation.

A registered charity, FEAT gets its funding from a variety of sources, including Fife Council, NHS Fife, BIG Lottery and the European Social Fund. FEAT is run by a voluntary management committee that includes people with experience of mental ill health.  We employ ten staff whose job it is to deliver the range of services available to both clients and employers.

Users of mental health services also have a key role to play in shaping and developing our services. Along with representatives from a range of relevant agencies, they help make up an advisory committee that gives the management committee assistance when they need it.

In 2010, FEAT also launched a new project aimed at providing all of our information and resources in a fully interactive manner.  Digital FEAT uses a new website, touchscreen equipment and mobile phone technology to get our message across and enable others to contribute their views, opinions, experiences and knowledge to our work.
